Women Build 2011

Women are picking up hammers and hard hats in an effort to help make a family’s homeownership dream a reality through the Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Project.

The week of April 30 - May 6 female volunteers from all walks of life will help a family build their home as part of Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build Week. The home will add to more than 800 Habitat for Humanity homes built by crews of women throughout the United States.

Teri Ferguson, a 39 year employee of Cross Services, a Cross Group company, said every time she volunteers for the Women Build she leaves behind a piece of her heart.

“I’ve often said that I have to keep returning to Angel’s Place Subdivision for Women’s Build Projects, if only to visit the pieces of my heart that I left there.” Ferguson said. “I lost my heart to a tiny little girl whose sad eyes during our first meeting, took on a sparkle the second time we met. That was when she took my hand to show me her house!”

Ferguson went on to say, “I hope you will consider joining us, be warned though, if you come once you’ll want to return. You may get a few blisters on your hands, but you’ll get even more smiles on your face and in your heart.”

The 2011 Women Build will mark the third of its kind undertaken by the Bayou Area Habitat for Humanity. Women Build gives women the opportunity to learn construction skills and move families - especially children out of poverty housing.

Construction on the home will take place in the Angel’s Place Subdivision which is located on Bon Jovi Boulevard in Gray.
