Show Me Your...KIDS

With the Mardi Gras parades beginning this weekend, Rushing Media thought it might be nice to give you some pointers on how to catch the most beads at a parade. We asked members of local carnival clubs a couple of questions. What catches your eye during your ride? Besides yelling a good, old-fashioned “Throw me something, mister,” what can parade-goers do to get your attention and catch more beads?

Robin DeHart - Krewe of Cleopatra

“I look for the little kids that can’t get close to the float. I ride on top, so I tend to look for the people to the back. Make eye contact with me or get as close as you can. Just show that you are having a good time. If you are acting like a fool though, I won’t throw you anything. Get out of the crowd. It is hard to throw to one particular person if there are loads of people on the side of you. Posters are good attention getters too, especially that ones that say you throw like a girl. I like to show them just how girls can throw.”

Lana Falcon - Krewe of Aphrodite

“I look for small children in pick-up trucks, being well-behaved and not running in the road. I also like to throw to the elderly.”

Dr. Greg Pizzolato - Krewe of Houmas

“I like to throw to children and the elderly. I also like when people have signs like ‘It’s my birthday’ or ‘I’m from out of town’ or the ones that have a giant bullseye on them”

Lisa Robichaux - Krewe of Hyacinthians

“Signs that say ‘I’m from out of town’ or ‘First Mardi Gras’ always catch my attention. Also children furthest away from the floats, in stands or trucks, get my attention. I like to throw to them.”

Marc Davis - Krewe of Terreanians and Houmas

“The children catch my eye first. After that it is usually the most interesting sign that catches my attention.”

Mickey Duhon - Krewe of Aquarius

“I look for mostly young children, and people having a good time. If you’re dancing to our music and enjoying yourself, I’ll throw to you!”

Jodi Webb - Krewe of Hyacinthians

“I love signs! Also, I can see you better if you are further away from the float, maybe 5 feet or so. Children that are trying to catch beads on their own always catch my eye.”

Eric Falcon - Krewe of Hercules

“I throw to people that are a little further back from the float. Its hard to look down at the crowd. Kids in trucks are easy to see.”
