Flamingos, Marigolds, Burglars, Oh My!
by Tami Roche Ledet
Vandebilt’s VC Theatre is proud to announce its newest production “Birds of a Feather” by Gary Ray Stapp. The play combines old Vandebilt favorites along with new faces of all ages throughout the cast. Their newest comedy headlines a script filled with priceless moments and hilarious lines from a unique group of characters.
“Birds of a Feather” is a three-act comedy that will leave all ages collapsing from their seats in laughter. It tells the story of a nosy judgmental woman named Leona Crump, who falls into a pit of anxiety at the prospect of new neighbors in her tiny cul-de-sac.
Armed with an attitude and binoculars, Leona is consumed with anxiety concerning her new neighbors. Joined by an outrageously colorful cast of characters, Leona must learn to cope with the idea of someone invading her precious neighborhood.
Obnoxious Gafina Hambeffer-schmidt, her hillbilly “Maw”, her love-struck boyfriend Turner, and her sexy sister Bambi, unconscionably turn Leona’s neighborhood upside down.
Outnumbered, but refusing to be outmatched, Leona sets aside her obsession with her prize-winning marigolds, suits up in fatigues and irrationally resolves to “mop up” the new neighbors all by herself. However, a flock of pink flamingos drives her over the edge and lands her in the local jail. But, with the help of her weed eater, victory may ultimately be Leona’s.
