North Branch Library Reopening December 11
by Amy Whipple
The Terrebonne Parish Library System’s North Branch, located in Gray, across from H.L. Bourgeois High School, will reopen to the public on Saturday, December 11, 2010. The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by a magic show performed by Magician David LeBoeuf at 11:30 p.m. and a live performance by Treater Band at 1:30 p.m.
The branch, which originally opened its doors in 1974, has been completely renovated. There is a whimsical children’s area with a special story time section, a brightly colored neon section that is designated specifically for teens and an adult reading section. The adult reading area has been expanded and includes two reading decks overlooking Bayou Terrebonne.
The North Branch also has 26 computers, wireless Internet access throughout the building as well as a computer classroom, where free computer classes are given. Two large meeting rooms, one that seats 200 and a smaller meeting room for 50, are both available for use to local organizations. Four study rooms are also available to small groups for individual study sessions. A large, brightly colored arts-and-crafts room will host activities for adults, teens and juveniles throughout the year.

Book, DVD and magazine collections have also been expanded. The public will find 33,016 new books, 159 magazines, 2,577 DVDs and 1,100 books-on-CD. A snack area with vending machines is also a new addition.
Display cases located in the foyer compliment the branch. Mr. Roger Bourgeois has graciously allowed his collection “Then and Now” to be displayed there through May.
Branch Manager Lisa Jones and her staff invite the public to stop by to view everything this full-service branch has to offer including technology, reading and programs for all ages. It is truly a public facility that the citizens of Terrebonne and the surrounding parishes can be proud of.
