Nicholls Players Presents Social Theatre Experiment

Just after launching their first major production of the 2010-2011 season, the Nicholls Players are already making preparations for an exciting new theatre experiment that asks the question, “Can great live theatre be created in just 24 hours?”

November 6 marks the first, of what the organization hopes to be many, 24 Hour Plays performed for the university community. The extreme theatre project, which has been tried several times in theatres across the country, includes a series of short plays written and produced by a group of risk-taking thespians all in one single day. The Nicholls Players plan to make it an annual event of their newly established Studio Season, a series of shows presented throughout the year that are produced completely by the students and separate from the Mainstage Season.

On Friday, November 5 at 6 p.m., students will lock themselves into the Ballroom of the Student Union to write, direct, design and act four to six short pieces to be presented to a live audience just 24 hours later. On Saturday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Le Bijou Theater of the Student Union, curious audiences will gather to see the product of intense and very fast-paced labor. Can it be done? There is only one way to find out. Tickets are $5 and available at the door the night of the event.

For more information or to participate in the project, contact the organization by e-mail at nichollsplayers@gmail.com or by calling 985-448-4071. Donations of energy drinks will also be greatly appreciated by the sleepless performers.
