Louisiana’s History Comes to Life

AlterEgo Productions presents Louisiana playwright Carolyn Woosley’s cycle of one-woman plays about remarkable women of Louisiana in ten cities throughout the state this fall. The Visionaries Company, which is performing three of Woosley’s plays, is performing this weekend at the Bayou Playhouse in Lockport.
The Visionaries Company tour of “Louisiana Women” will have performances this weekend with performances at the Bayou Playhouse in Lockport. Performances include shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The tour will continue around the state performing in different cities each weekend culminating at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art during the New Orleans Fringe Festival in November.
“Louisiana Women” includes a dozen one-woman plays that turn spotlights on the lives of women of importance to Louisiana’s history. The three plays that will be featured by the Visionaries Company will perform three plays shedding light on the lives and work of women motivated and shaped by their social concerns. The selection of plays celebrates the lives of Caroline Dormon, Kate Chopin and Clyde Connell.

Molly Markwick will play Caroline Dormon, a nature and forestry preservationist, author and watercolorist. Kate Chopin, early feminist author will be portrayed by Donna Rigdon Jones. Civil rights advocate, Clyde Connell, will be played by Carol Ann Gayle.
The Visionaries Company is under the direction of Carol Anne Gayle, former pupil of legendary acting teacher Sanford Meisner and graduate of New York’s Neighborhood Playhouse Theatre. Gayle is a veteran actor and director with more than 40 years experience in live theater, television, film and radio productions.
