KidPirates®: The Earth is Our Treasure
Compiled by Mary Downer
“Come join in our day, in the Captain Papillion way. We’ll dance, sing and do loads of pirate-y things. Learning about the environment and how to conserve, treasuring our Earth, it’s what she deserves!” -Captain Papillion.
The Kids In Motion Playhouse proudly presents KidPirates®: The Earth is Our Treasure. Captain Papillion, the prodigious purveyor of positive pirating, directs this unique program. Through original songs, Captain Papillion teaches about un-plundering the Earth. He encourages the youth to come dressed as pirates, as there will be a contest for the best-dressed pirate.
K.I.M.’s Playhouse is a nonprofit organization geared towards opening a children’s museum in Houma, and supporting programs that encourage learning through play for children and families. The playhouse will be for the entire family, including toddler and teen areas. Parents are encouraged to get involved to further the concept of families coming together. Focusing on careers, environment and the arts is one of the focuses of the organization.
K.I.M.’s Playhouse currently travels throughout South Louisiana to promote awareness of their mission and exhibits. Children love the exhibits and parents are excited to hear of an educational, fun and safe place where they can enjoy bringing their kids.
The Playhouse has recently been entered into the Pepsi Refresh Project. Pepsi is giving away $1.3 million to fund ideas that refresh the Gulf Coast. K.I.M.’s Playhouse entry reads: “With the current economy and recent BP Gulf Oil Spill, parents are seeking educational and fun places for their children that are affordable.”
The entry also explains that the museum will provide:
- Children and families a quality leisure activity where they can experiment, play, use imagination and share ideas.
- Parents and caregivers an opportunity to have interactive experiences with their child.
- Opportunity for children to learn by “doing” where learning is multi-sensory.
- Cooperation and understanding among generations and cultures to encourage children and adults to learn from one another.
- Physical, emotional and cognitive growth of children and teens.
- Sense of “self” and “possibilities”
Voting is open until September 30. Please take a moment to visit www.refresheverything.com/kidsinmotionplayhouse to vote for K.I.M.’s Playhouse. Each person can vote for up to 10 different projects a day.
