First Distance Race in Houma
by Bivonia (Bevi) Olivier
The Cardiovascular Institute of the South and Terrebonne General Medical Center are presenting the 1st annual Houma Hearts and Soles Half-Marathon on Saturday, January 8 at 7 a.m. at the Houma Terrebonne Civic Center.
This is the first distance race for the Houma area. The event will include a half-marathon relay at 13.1 miles, a two-man relay at 6.55 miles per person and a 5K walk/run at 3.1 miles.
Cardiovascular Institute of the South and Terrebonne General Medical Center have teamed up to support this event in order to raise funds to provide cardiovascular screenings and education for the community of Terrebonne Parish. Proper cardiovascular education and regular screenings are the first steps in preventing cardiovascular disease. And by making changes in your lifestyle, you can actually modify some of your risk factors to reduce your risk for heart disease.
To register for the race, or to find more information such as the course map and entry fees, please visit www.bayourunners.com or www.bccbike.org. Participants are required to register before the event. Registration closes on January 7, 2011. Race packets can be picked up at the Courtyard by Marriot on that Friday from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m.
